The Meleto Castle is a castle in the heart of Chianti. It is a dream place, no more reserved only to the noble families of Tuscany but open to you as well. Meleto Castle was originally a Florentine fortification against Siena. This fortress belonged to the noble family Ricasoli, as did Brolio Castle. In 1968 the Ricasoli family sold Meleto Castle and the surrounding estate, which covered around 1,100 hectares, to the Società Viticola Toscana. In the middle of the farm, high up on the hill, the fortress seems to guard over all the estate. Six apartments, which are directly attached to the wall of the castle or fortress, have been restored since summer 1968. They have taken the place of previous small buildings meant to be used by the farm. Each apartment has a terrace or garden for relaxing in the open air. Very close to the apartments (100-150 m) there is also a panoramic swimming-pool. Meleto is in Gaiole in Chianti, about 1 km from the village. In Gaiole and in the small villages nearby there are several pizzerias and restaurants of every level and price category.
